Started in July 2005, Magic|Real Picture Company is a boutique Australian film and television company specialising in documentary and factual production.
It was founded by award-winning documentary film-maker and radio broadcaster, Ian Walker, who has combined a solid background in journalism with creative storytelling during 25 years of media experience.
Whether producing other people's work, or writing and directing his own ideas, Ian's body of work demonstrates a passion for exploring and documenting the extraordinary diversity, complexity, ordinariness and magic of the real world.
The company's first film was the hard-hitting social realism of Suburb 4 Sale (2006). Their next offering was the feature documentary, Naked On The Inside, which has screened at festivals across Australia as well as in Zurich, Cape Town and New York, and was nominated for the 2007 Sydney Film Festival Dendy Award for Best Documentary.
Magic|Real's latest is the by turns suspenseful and darkly comic ‘unnatural history’ documentary, Feral Peril, about the race to save Tasmania’s wilderness from the villainous European Red Fox. Next off the rank is the chilling and compelling film about the psychopaths among us: I, Psychopath.
